About

Resthaven Memory Gardens Funeral & Cremation are part of the Allnutt Funeral Service group. Though the funeral home and cemetery do not bear the Allnutt name, they lead with the same priority: treat people from all walks of life like they are members of our very own family. Working together, the mortuary and cemetery are the only places in northern Colorado that accommodate a funeral service, interment and reception on the same property.

Genuine people who go the extra mile

Resthaven Funeral & Cremation opened on the grounds of Resthaven Memory Gardens in 2007 to provide a convenient place for families in the Fort Collins and Loveland communities to plan funerals, cremations and personalized memorials. Our funeral home associates are sensitive, respectful and compassionate. We put families first and do our very best to exceed expectations.

An accommodating Fort Collins funeral home

Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memory GardensLocated on Highway 287, our building is a comfortable, welcoming place to plan a funeral or cremation and celebrate life. Warm, smiling associates greet each family who walks through our doors. They are always ready to serve.

The non-denominational funeral chapel has flexible chair seating and holds about 100 people. A modern audiovisual system allows for a custom playlist or a multimedia tribute, which we are happy to create for you.

Resthaven Funeral & Cremation hosts small gatherings before or after services in our foyer.

Our private crematory

Cremation is an increasingly common choice, but not everyone knows that cremation can also include a beautiful ceremony or even a viewing with visitation. From a cremation without a funeral service to a cremation with a memorial that follows, we are here to help you understand the variety of arrangements that are possible and will partner with you to create a unique service for your loved one.

Though Resthaven Funeral & Cremation does not have a crematory on-site, we perform all our cremations at the private crematory, located at the Allnutt Funeral Service location in Loveland.

Let’s celebrate life

Reception room at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memory GardensFort Collins is a picturesque mountain town surrounded by pristine landscape. The natural beauty of this area draws people outside, and we specialize in planning personalized memorials that take advantage of this covetable backdrop. Graveside services at Resthaven Memory Gardens are common, but we also help plan anything from a mountaintop cremation ceremony to an Honor Guard salute at sunset.

Just give us a call. We are always here for you, whether you are planning a funeral ahead of time or need immediate assistance.

Resthaven Memory Gardens cemetery

Nestled right against the Rocky Mountains and a number of national parks, Resthaven Memory Gardens opened in the 1950s. The 34-acre cemetery is beautifully manicured and maintained. With less than half of its land developed, it has the capacity to serve several more generations of Coloradans. The property includes a pond with a bubbling fountain and lily pads and flowers peppering the surface of the water.

A place for all people

Mausoleum at Resthaven Memory GardensThe cemetery and funeral home both serve people from all cultural and faith backgrounds. There are 10 gardens accommodating in-ground burials, above-ground interments and cremations. Mountain View Garden has lawn crypts. Devotion is the only garden where upright markers are permitted. Last Supper, Christus, Good Shepherd and Victory (the veterans garden) all have flat, bronze-on-granite markers. Last Supper II requires flat etched-granite markers.

The Garden of Tranquility is a place just for cremation urns. Designed like a park garden, it has lush foliage and a lovely little fountain. Garden of Reflections sits by the pond and offers 2 columbaria, along with several other cremation options, including raised blocks, a walkway and an ossuary. Infants can be laid to rest in the Little Angels Garden. Two mausoleums host both crypts and cremation niches.

Resthaven Memory Gardens is the only cemetery in northern Colorado to offer build-to-suit estate sites as well as private estates. It also offers a green burial option for those seeking a more natural alternative to traditional burial.

A place for pets

We know that pets are cherished family members, and many people choose to memorialize their sweet friends at Resthaven Memory Gardens. With neatly kept graves for dogs, cats, horses and other animals, the pet cemetery gives the people of Fort Collins, Loveland and surrounding areas peace of mind when it comes to their beloved companion animals.

Let us show you around

Though photos convey a lot, we invite you to come see Resthaven Memory Gardens for yourself. You are welcome to visit the cemetery anytime or call us to schedule a guided tour.

History

Front exterior at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memory GardensThe Allnutt Funeral Service story began when Thomas Macy left Nantucket at the age of 9 as a stowaway on a whaling vessel. Following his service in the Civil War, he became a pioneer. He traveled as far as the Colorado mountains and settled in Greeley. He began working at Linn Grove Cemetery and became the first county coroner in 1884. In 1886, he founded T.G. Macy Undertaking.

By 1920, T.G. Macy Undertaking had four downtown Greeley locations. In 1918, one of the properties burned down. That’s when TG built the property at 702 13th St., where the Macy Chapel stands today.

A love that inspired a legacy

Fredric Allnutt arrived in Colorado from England in the late 1890s. In 1902, he married Macy’s stepdaughter, Anna Wolfenden; they both joined the business that same year.

The flu pandemic hit the area hard in 1918. The first of two H1N1 influenza viruses killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide, including many in the Greeley area. Fredric and Anna’s son John was only 15 when he was needed to drive a hearse to and from Linn Grove, Evans and Eaton cemeteries up to six times a day. He officially joined the company in 1920, the same year Frederic and Anna built their house on the 13th Street property in Greeley. It remained a personal residence until the 1980s, when the company converted it to a reception center.

Brothers building the business

The business hummed along. After graduating from the University of Denver in 1950, John’s brother, Jack, attended mortuary school in Dallas. He joined the family business in 1951.

In 1956, John and Jack’s brother, Bill, joined the business after serving in the U.S. Air Force. Around that time, the brothers bought the company’s Eaton location (which they sold in 2009).

They made Goodrich Mortuary, on East Olive Street in Fort Collins, part of the Allnutt group in 1984.

Bill’s son, Rick, joined the company in 1985. That’s about the time Allnutt bought Hunter Chapel in Loveland. The next year, they bought Estes Park Mortuary.

The company added Reager Funeral Home and Crematory to its portfolio in 1994. That same year, Allnutt Funeral Service began operating its first care center. (That property was sold in 2011. By that time, the care center had been relocated to Hunter Chapel.)

Estes Park Mortuary got a new chapel in 1995. A new Fort Collins location—the current location—was built in 1996.

Growth continues

In 2007, the family purchased its first funeral home/cemetery location, Resthaven Memory Gardens Funeral & Cremation, in Fort Collins. Seeing a need for a place for people to memorialize their pets, they added a pet cemetery.

That same year, on March 16, the beloved Jack Allnutt died. The family converted the original family home from a reception center to Jack’s Place, a community meeting place and temporary lodging for those attending funerals or visiting sick loved ones nearby.

In 2012, Allnutt Funeral Service acquired Callahan-Edfast Mortuary and Crematory in Grand Junction, expanding its reach to the families of the Western Slope. Additionally, the company bought Grant Mortuaries, in Craig and Meeker, Colorado.

Today, Allnutt Funeral Service is part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. Family proprietors Rick Allnutt and Susan Hughes carry on the family enterprise, which includes 12 locations in western and northern Colorado and western Nebraska.
